The hippopotamus lives on the African savannah where it spends most of its day in the water.At night,it grazes on land. If it has to walk far to find grass, it will leave a trail of manure, allowing it to sniff its way back to the water-hole.

The hippopotamus is a large animal what weighs up to three tons. It is also considered to be a very dangerous animal as its jaws are strong enough to bite a three-metre-long crocodile in two. When two hippos meet, they may threaten each other by opening their mouths and exposing their razor-sharp tusks or they may be polite and cover each other with dung!
